World Peace

I saw the 100 yr memorial event in France at the Arc de Triomphe in France on Armistice Da/Veterans Day where 70 countries were represented in a gathering to reflect on the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. Then I thought of the deeper issue of world peace, and what we as humans believe it ought to look like. With my faith being in Jesus Christ as God who became flesh to save all of humanity, and His role as creator, I began to ponder how unatainable the idea of world peace is without Jesus being the one to bring it. The scriptures that teach these things about Jesus are:

-Hebrews 1:1 & 2-“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”
-Colossians 1:15-17 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

When you consider that Jesus not only created the universe, but also sustains every breathe we breathe, every cell multiplication in every organism, every orbit of every planet, every weather pattern of every continent, every crop of every field, and every creature of every environment, then our means of peace falls utterly and completely in His hands. The problem with removing Jesus as the center of world peace is this, once the sustainer of all things is literally removed, the means to survive are gone. Actually, all of life disappears as we know it, but let’s suppose Jesus only partially removes Himself as the sustainer of life. Crops fail, weather patterns become much more chaotic than known before, disease runs rampant. Now, how does world peace look when you are taking care of your family, or even just yourself, and there is quickly diminishing food/no food and no reliable shelter due to weather disasters? This is where violence would erupt in survival of the fittest, and notions of man-made “world peace” without God would meet reality.

To turn our backs on the truth of our Origin and our Providence is to live in a fantasy world that will one day come to an end. This life is given once, and it is in this life that we are able to choose the love of Him Who made us, or reject it. Please consider the reality that there is a Savior, Who loves you, Who is waiting for you to come to Him, Who is sustaining your every breath and holding your whole world together, Who sees your hurts and wants to bring you peace.

-John 3: 16-21 “For God so loved the world,[i] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

-Romans 3: 22b- 26 “For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
